Intra-observer, inter-experiment and inter-observer variability of left ventricular volumes and mass measurements in mice using an 11.7 Tesla MRI

چکیده
Methods Seven 10 weeks-old C57Bl6J male mice were studied, including 4 animals with a surgical transverse aortic constriction in order to produce cardiac hypertrophy. 3 were sham (control) mice. During the entire procedure, animals were anaesthetized with Isoflurane 1-3%, in a temperature-controlled setting. Scan were retrospectively gated for electrocardiogram (ECG) and respiration. Imaging was performed on a 11.7 Tesla Bruker MR scanner. Cardiac scout images were obtained in the conventional planes with a tripilot sequence. A 2D cine FLASH sequence was applied to acquire a set of 7 contiguous short axis images covering the entire ventricles, perpendicular to the LV long axis. One day after the procedure, mice were scanned again under the same conditions. The LV systolic function was assessed from each stack of images by tracing epicardial and endocardial borders, including papillary muscles, on the Segment software (Medviso, Sweden). End-diastolic (EDV), end-systolic (ESV) and stroke volume (SV) were determined (μl). LV ejection fraction (EF, in %) and LV mass (mg) were subsequently deduced. One stack of images was analyzed twice by the same person, and once by an independent observer.

Operator induced variability in cardiovascular MR: left ventricular measurements and their reproducibility.
PURPOSE To assess the intra- and inter-operator variability of the manual planning of cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging and to evaluate the influence of these factors on the functional parameters of the left ventricle (LV). METHOD The study population consisted of 10 healthy volunteers. For each subject the manual planning of the short-axis cine acquisitions was carried out twice by o...
متن کاملInter- and intra-study reproducibility of LV volume analysis performed by technologists
Results Intra-observer variability was assessed using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC); inter-observer variability was assessed using Bland Altman plots for agreement. Intra-observer variability was low for both observers (ICC; observer 1 EDV: 0.99, ESV: 0.93, mass: 0.94 vs observer 2 EDV: 0.97, ESV: 0.97, mass: 0.94). Interobserver variability was lowest for volumes and highest for mas...

متن کاملComparison of Double and Single Leg Weight-Bearing Radiography in Determining Knee Alignment
Background: Knee malalignment is an important modifiable cause of osteoarthritis (OA). Surgical therapeutic procedures depend on proper knee alignment assessment. The purpose of this study was to compare knee alignment parameters between double and single leg weight-bearing radiographs and to evaluate the reproducibility of inter- and intra-observer measurements. Methods: One hundred eight p...
متن کاملImproved quantification of left ventricular volumes and mass based on endocardial and epicardial surface detection from cardiac MR images using level set models.
PURPOSE The reproducibility of left ventricular (LV) volume and mass measurements based on subjective slice-by-slice tracing of LV borders is affected by image quality, and volume estimates are biased by geometric modeling. The authors developed a technique for volumetric surface detection (VoSD) and quantification of LV volumes and mass without tracing and geometric approximations. The authors...
